This coffee was grown on a single hill in the Kayanza region of Burundi called Musumba. Farmers who grow coffee on this hill must walk down this hill, carrying their ripe coffee cherries across a raging river and then 5km up hill to Long Miles' Bukeye Washing Station - no easy feat whilst carrying over 50lbs of coffee on your back or head!
Last year, Long Miles and the local community helped build a new foot bridge over the river named after the hill, this replaced the old single felled tree that was previously used making this traverse a lot easier and of course safer.
Long Miles Coffee Project was started by Ben & Kristy Carlson with the hope of facilitating direct and meaningful relationships between coffee roasters and coffee growers by producing great coffee and telling a great story of the farmers who grow it. As they say "If we could do that, then the local farming community would thrive and the world would gain the gift of great Burundi coffee"
