Christobal Chamaya owns the small farm La Palta in the province of San Ignacio located within the San Jose de Lourdes district of Peru's Cajamarca region. His farm is situated at 1700 masl and he primarily grows the renknowed Caturra variety for its great quality when grown at high altitudes.

 

Christobal is part of the producer led co-operative Santuario which has 360 embers within the area. Working with a mission to help smallholder producers get the best possible prices for coffee through quality improvement, Santuario also offers technical field assistance,sending individuals with agricultural experience and training to offer advice on soil fertility, cultivation techniques, harvesting, and post-harvest practices in order to improve quality. In addition to helping farmers access the specialty market, Santuario’s focus on long-term sustainability offers a path to long-term profitability for smallholders.
