Luis Anibal Calderón lives at Finca Villa Betulia with his wife and 3 sons. He first purchased the land in 2005 and began planting specialty coffee varieties in 2012, when he planted 5,000 Geisha trees on around 5% of his farm. Today, Villa Betulia is planted with a wide range of specialty varieties including Pink Bourbon.
Pink Bourbon is a hybrid of Yellow and Red Bourbon varieties that was first discovered and grown in Colombia. Great lots of Pink Bourbon offer a sweet & super complex standout flavor profile. Farmers such as Luis find it is also much more resistant to diseases such as coffee leaf rust. After selective handpicking, ripe cherry is pulped using a classic drum pulper and laid to dry on raised beds. The sweet, sticky layer of mucilage and coffee sundries for 15 to 20 days before being sent to the dry mill in Armenia.
